Oh, my gosh! Today’s the day! It’s finally September 28th, and we’re leaving for Hawaii! This is seriously one of the most exciting things that’s ever happened to me. It didn’t take much to wake me up that Thursday morning. The moment I heard my alarm go off, I jumped out of bed and quickly got ready. During that time, I honestly couldn’t think of anything else but Hawaii. As my parents were gathering up some last minute items, I kept pacing back and forth in the living room.

It’s time to go! Oh goodness, I’m so excited. I can’t believe I’m off to Hawaii. We all jumped into my father’s pick-up and headed off to my grandparents’ house. We invited my grandparents to go along with us. Man, we have to drive all the way to Spokane? How can I seriously sit in one spot for that long when I’m going to Hawaii? Let me tell you, it’s difficult.

As the time drew on, I started thinking about school…I know…but it was about my English project. We have to write our own myth. During the drive, I started coming up with ideas for what I could write about. Finally, I came up with the perfect title: Why Animals Don’t Talk. I even started thinking about what it was going to be about, whose fault it, was and everything. Crazy enough, I started to get excited to write this paper.

Before I knew it, we drove into Spokane, Washington. It seemed like forever to get to the airport; it was so close, yet so far away, but we arrived at the airport soon enough. As we all gathered our stuff, I couldn’t stop bouncing with excitement. We checked in, went through security, and strolled toward the terminal. I wanted to run, but that was just me. I glanced up, looking for Seattle on the terminal board. I soon found it.

CANCELLED.

We drove all the way over here just to find out our plane was cancelled? Our plane was broken. Sure, I was glad I wasn’t on it when it broke, but still. We can’t miss the flight to Hawaii.

We sat there for what seemed like hours, until we established what we were going to do. We would get a plane to Seattle - off to Horizon Air.

As soon as we reached the terminal, we realized that we had different seats. My seat was away from everyone else’s. Oh, well.

Sitting on the plane, between two strangers, I gathered all my homework and started on it, as lame as it was.

“Attention passengers, we are getting ready to land in Seattle, and there are some passengers who need to get on a plane to Maui, Hawaii so please let them get off the plane first. Thank you,” I suddenly heard in the intercom. Cool. That’s us! Are we that close to missing the flight?

I kept looking above me at the flashing seatbelt light, waiting for it to turn off. There it went. Quickly I got up, gathering my stuff, and pushed myself out to the aisle. Looking back, I noticed my family doing the same. We all rushed off the plane, but we had no idea where we were.

Quickly finding a map, we figured out that the flight for Hawaii was on the other side of the airport. Mmhmm….we’ll never make it. I kept rushing to find the terminal, not wanting to miss this flight.

But we did. We missed it by a long run.

Why does this have to happen when I’m going to Hawaii? Honestly, Hawaii is expensive and we wanted to spend as much time as possible there!

Even though this was happening, I still wasn’t that upset. After all, I’m still going to Maui. We strolled around the airport and ate…and did a little airport shopping. Not much to do at an airport.

Again, we walked back to the terminal, checking to see if anyone found us a flight. For a while, we just stood there, waiting.

Finally! A flight to Honolulu? That’s okay! I can go to TWO islands instead of just one. So, we flew to Honolulu, then took a small flight to Maui. We got there a little later than planned, but got there.

Gathering up our belongings, we hopped aboard the plane. Oh, yeah, we all got to sit next to each other. Ooh, goody! A movie! First, an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, which was quite hilarious. Then, the movie. Throughout the movie, my mother and I just laughed…not that it was funny or anything, just completely stupid. It was probably one of the stupidest movies I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Glancing at my watch, it was around 7:00 Hawaii time, which is 11:00 at home. Wow…what a freaking, long day!

Halleluiah, we’ve arrived! Wow…it’s gorgeous! I’m in paradise…and it’s not Paradise, Montana either! Stepping off the plane I glanced around finding many Hawaiian flowers, photos, and people. It was quite dark for 7:00. Many people were smoking, which I found completely disgusting. My grandfather was already having a difficult time breathing, and smoking was part of it. It’s just rude to smoke in such a public place.

Strolling around the airport, I realized it was probably the coolest airport I’ve ever been to…Hawaiian flowers everywhere.

I was following my parents without really knowing where I was going. Suddenly, the pathway led us to the basement, where our plane was waiting for us. Speaking of that plane, it was the smallest plane I have ever been on in my life. Staring out the window, sitting next to my father, I couldn’t help but fear for my life during the bumpy ride.

It was a long, disappointing journey to Hawaii, and hopefully nothing else would happen. Staring out the window, the lights of Maui came into sight, and as I nearly jumped out of my seat, butterflies appeared in my stomach.

We were officially in Maui, Hawaii! I wished I lived in that place, even though I had been there for a total of two seconds…So nothing else could possibly happen right?

Okay, where’s our luggage?

Poem

Imagine a voice of a dangerous lilac stream,
Desire and crave the fruit feast on the reef.
As the free voice declares the forgotten gleam.
Forget the dangerous crave for the shimmering sea.
The desiring children happily listened to the stranger.

Misty night

One misty night, I was standing on the bridge, overlooking a lake. Honestly, life is better here than at my own house. Problems with the wife…she’s always nagging me. I know that I don’t give her all the attention she deserves, but I have my life, too.

It was at that moment that I saw a rather tall man gripping a young boy by the arm. It didn’t really look like the boy was very happy, and it sort of looked like he was being gripped against his will. What should I do? Should I go see what’s going on? Did the boy even know this man? This boy didn’t look any older than seven or eight. The man was tall and was wearing a trench coat and a hat. At that moment I saw the man hold up a lantern, and he swung it back and forth three times. What was that all about?

Before I could wonder for long, I suddenly realized what he was doing. A boat appeared from the mist. That wasn’t there before…I’ve been here for a little while, and I never saw it.As I was staring at the boat, I heard a cry for help. I glanced back at the man and the boy, and the man was trying to pull the boy towards the harbor. Obviously, the boy didn’t want to go, and didn’t know the man.

It was then that I bucked up my courage and strolled towards them.“What do you think you’re doing?” I asked, putting my hand on the boy’s shoulder.“It’s none of your business,” replied the man. I squatted down and faced the boy. The poor thing had tears, strolling down his face. “Do you know this man?” I asked seriously.

I stared at the boy carefully, since I could tell he didn’t want to answer. He slowly shook his head, trying his hardest to keep the man from seeing him.“I’m going to take you home,” I said, taking the boy’s hand. The man tried to stop us, of course. “I could call the police right now and you could be arrested for kidnapping. Just let me take the boy home, and I won’t call them. The police station is right down the street.” I’ve never been more serious in my entire life. The man shut his mouth, and the young boy and I walked off.
